The news is that I have traded in my M9. For some reason I was not comfortable with it, despite its undoubted qualities and its improvements over the M8. The synergy just was not there. So I "swapped" it for a very nice black M8.2, which will do me very well for the B&W that increasingly forms the larger part of my output, to say nothing of my nascent interest in infra-red photography.
This has of course meant a return to UV/IR filters for general photography, but for dedicated B&W one can remove them.
I also ordered from RW a Voigtlander 15mm VM to give me a much needed wider angle on the M8.2.
The other news is that all this has enabled me to buy an X-1 as well. In black! The first of these arrived at the shop from Germany yesterday (8th December), and as we only had two on reserve I bought one of the others, together with its viewfinder a spare battery and an Artisan & Artist 1/2 case. I have been waiting fro these for some time after trying out the shop's X-1 a couple of times over the summer. I have also ordered a black Thumbs-up for it from Tim Isaacs and hopefully that will arrive before Xmas.
