New Khmer Architecture
Following Independence from the French, Cambodia under King Sihanouk, and led by the architect Vann Molyvann began a programme of construction in the modernist style.
Molyvann, trained by Le Corbusier incorporated ancient styles and motifs in his buildings while dealing with the tropical climate of his homeland. Alas, as Cambodia lacks protection for important heritage buildings, many of these are sadly in need of maintenance and are under threat.
